MeT Department Issues Weather Alert

Starting with Northern part of India, a Western Disturbance lies over North Jammu & Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation is over North Rajasthan & neighboring Punjab. As a result, light to moderate rains are expected over Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Higher reaches of these states may also experience snowfall. Thundershowers and dust storm will take place in several parts of Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan today Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a fresh yellow weather alert for thunderstorm in Himachal Pradesh on 22 and 23 May . The Shimla Meteorological Centre has predicted thunderstorm accompanied with gusty storms in plains & low and middle hills of the state on  Thursday. It must be noted that MeT office issues colour-coded warnings to aware people ahead of severe or dangerous weather that may cause damage, widespread disruption or even danger to life. Yellow alert is a least dangerous weather warning and it indicates the possibility of severe climate over the next few days that may affect locals. Coming towards East and Northeast India, a cyclonic circulation is lying over foothills of Bihar while another is seen over Assam & Meghalaya. Therefore, widespread rain along with thundershower activities will continue over the northeastern states, Sikkim & Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. East India will stay mostly dry however thunderstorm in isolated areas of Jharkhand and Bihar is possible. In the Southern part of the country, a trough is extending across regions of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and South Interior Karnataka. Hence, rain and thundershowers will continue in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, South Karnataka and Rayalaseema. Rest of Andhra Pradesh and North Interior Karnataka will remain arid and hot. Also heat wave conditions may occur in parts of Telangana.
